Tomatin went into this league encounter with Boat of Garten in confident mood following their good run of recent games. This match however would prove to be a tough challenge for the home team but they managed to secure a 2-1 win and maintain their third spot in the league.

Tomatin opened the scoring on 12 minutes against the run of play with newcomers Boat starting the better team. A throw in on the far side fell to Alex Hamilton in a ruck of players inside the box and his effort found its way into the net albeit off a Boat defender. The big forward was definitely claiming the goal so we will give him the benefit of the doubt. (At least until the panel view the footage!! lol)

It took the visitors just 6 minutes to equalise when a through ball left (No 10??) in the clear and he managed to go round Garry Stuart and stroke the ball into the empty net. Tomatin should have re-gained the lead on 25 minutes when Hamilton was clean through on goal but with only the keeper to beat he hesitated somewhat and the chance was gone.

Hamilton was to make up for this miss after 37 minutes when he converted a lovely free kick from all of 22 yards which left the visiting keeper with no chance as the ball flew past him. Half time arrived with Tomatin holding onto their slender lead.

The second half was really close with lots of chances for both teams as they battled away against each other. Murray Fraser came closest for Tomatin with a great effort which only just went over from 25 yards out. The home team also hit the post after 65 minutes following a Callum Ferguson effort.

There would be no more goals in this match but both teams worked really hard throughout and Boat of Garten must take a lot of credit for their efforts and if they continue to play with the same vigour for the rest of the season then many teams will find them hard opponents to break down.

This was United's third league victory in a row and it is the first time in their history that they have managed to achieve this. They are now sitting on 9 points after 4 league games which is already 2 points more than they managed to gained in the whole of last season. They now face a really tough challenge on Friday night as they travel to face Carrbridge in the cup.
