Keep Fit (aka Bounce and Blether)

keep fitTuesdays, during the winter months, Strathdearn Hall 11am -12.

£2 per session.

We would love to see new members come along. It’s a simple format – a tape of music plays for half and hour, starting slowly and getting faster and we each do whatever exercises we feel like doing, according to our fitness levels. And we chat 😉 After the music, there’s about 20 minutes of stretches and yoga-type moves.

We’re working for you. Come along and tell us how we can do better!

Church of Scotland

Church of ScotlandPlease note : all our services and activities are presently suspended due to the coronavirus epidemic. The Interim Moderator the Rev. Robert E. Brookes is producing a service every week for the Churches in Daviot & Dunlichity and Moy, Dalarossie & Tomatin. You can read this week’s sermon HERE. You can find more information on the church website HERE. Please also see below for information about “Messy Church at Home”.

‘Messy Church at Home’

All our Church Services and activities are currently suspended because of coronavirus, but we wondered if those of you trying to keep wee ones occupied at home in the lockdown might be interested that Messy Church nationally is providing a weekly Messy Church at home session until at least the end of June, which Messy Church @ Moy, Dalarossie & Tomatin would be happy to e-mail to interested families who might like to try the activities and crafts.

The first session – ‘Emmaus at Home’ tells the story of Jesus’ encounter with two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus after the Resurrection. There are four craft activities to try at home:

  1. ‘Footprints’ – cutting cardboard roughly into the shape of little feet, small enough to stick onto the end of your finger as if your finger is the leg – and then dipping the feet into paint and ‘walking’ the feet along paper leaving a footpaint trail behind; doing this three times in different colours to make three sets of footprints which join up.

  2. ‘Slo-Fast Races’ – where the challenge is to see who can go from A to B the most slowly – and who can be fastest to go back from B to A.

  3. Design a Board Game where:

a) the players have to get from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

b) on the way, every Old Testament book (the bit of the Bible written before Jesus was born) needs to be used somehow on the journey

c) to win the game, the player has to ‘break the bread’ in Emmaus.

  1. Make a Mentos Geyser – by putting mentos mints as quickly as you can in a newly opened bottle of coke (using a paper funnel) AND STANDING WELL BACK as it fizzes and sprays out!

If you are interested, text Vivian on 07887 704 915 – or e-mail vroden@btinternet.com with your e-mail address to get the e-mail containing the download with all the instructions you need to make the crafts, as well as the Bible Story, and other links including one to ‘Messy Church Does Science’ about the mentos geyser, and a song! 🙂

Parish of Moy, Dalarossie and Tomatin

Interim Moderator:  Rev Morven Archer

T: 01463 237840

Since the closure of Tomatin Church, we now meet in the Strathdearn Hall every Sunday at 10.30am, except for the Services which are held at Dalarossie on the first and third Sundays of the month from March – November, inclusive.

We have Tea after the Services in the Hall at Tomatin, and on the Second Sunday of the month, invite donations for the Highland Foodbank.

Any of the following items will be much appreciated:-  Breakfast Cereal / Pasta or Rice / Tinned Potatoes / Oatcakes or Crackers / Tinned Vegetables / Tinned Tomatoes / Tinned Fruit / Long Life Fruit Juice / Tinned Ham or Corned Beef / Tinned Soup / Tinned Tuna or Salmon / Tinned Mince or Stew / UHT Milk / Tinned Custard or Rice / Teabags or Coffee / Sugar.  Further information from Vivian on 01808 511255.

Afternoon Tea:

Join us at the Strathdearn Hall for a chat over freshly made sandwiches and delicious scones and cakes between 3 and 4 pm on the second Monday of each month. Further information from Vivian on 01808 511355.

The Guild:

Meets at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month between September and April, inclusive, usually in the Strathdearn Hall unless stated otherwise.  New members welcome.  Further information from May 01808 511448.

Messy Church:

We also have Messy Church, usually on the last Sunday of each month, in the Strathdearn Hall from 4pm – 6pm.

We have some fun with crafts to begin with, and then have a Bible storytelling time with a hymn and prayer.  Then we have tea together (proper meal, that is, not just a cup of tea, although we usually have one of these after our meal as well!)

All are welcome.  Adults and teenagers as well as children –  you don’t have to have a child to come along and it doesn’t matter whether you go to Church or not. Messy Church comes under the ‘fresh expressions’ of Church and it’s Church for people who think a traditional church service isn’t really for them – although many of us who go are involved in traditional church too! It’s for everyone really!

Children have to bring an adult with them –  they usually enjoy it too!  Parents/grandparents/carers don’t have to do anything (unless they want to try some craft work etc!)  You can just chill out with a coffee if you want.

No charge, but donations welcomed.

Further information from Vivian 01808 5112355, Sandra 01808 511246, or Liz 01808 511353 and we’d love to see you there.

Strathdearn Football Club

Strathdearn Football Club was formed in the early 90’s by Jimmy Irvine and managed by him until 2005. Club Captain Kenny Macdonald has been with the Club since it was formed. The current squad comes from Tomatin and Strathnairn and plays in the Strathspey and Badenoch Welfare League.

Strathdearn football TeamThis winters weather has played havoc with the Inverness League programme due to end in February. As at date of writing, Tomatin have played just 8 of their 16 scheduled league games and currently lie in second position in the league. However, in view of the varying number of games played by different teams, a true position is difficult to establish at present. Hopefully the weather will improve and allow more matches to take place.

Bruce Harman

Team

The present team comprises of a squad of 20 players. The team strip is maroon with yellow flashes. League matches are played on Tuesday nights and Cup matches on Friday nights both at 7pm.

Step it Up Highland Health Walking Group

StepItUpHighlandTomatin has a very active Step It Up Highland Walking Group. SIUH is not a rambling club, but aims to encourage community walking for health. The aims of SIUH are given in https://www.pfw.org.uk/projects/step-it-up-highland/

We are a walking group for health, but this needs clarifying. No one thinking of joining us needs to feel that they should already be fit. The whole point is to encourage all of us to take more exercise, and with that aim in mind, we run two walks simultaneously: one for those who are able to walk for up to one and a half hours, and one for those who can manage up to half an hour, which might include those with disabilities. On our walks we also enjoy observing wildlife, flora, landscapes and geological points of interest, as well as our many archaeological sites in Strathdearn.
The Group has three leaders. We finish our walks with refreshments in Strathdearn Hall, which promotes a very friendly and co-operative group, where each individual helps and considers all other members.

Gardening Club

Gclublogo

Tomatin and District Gardening Club meets at 7:30PM on the third Monday of each month at Strathdearn Community Hall. The aims of the Club are to improve our enjoyment and understanding of gardening under the rather special conditions prevailing in Strathdearn.
The Gardening Club is the organising body for the annual Strathdearn Flower Show.

Syllabus

Gardening in Strathdearn is constrained by climate (frost and wind rather than rainfall), acid soils and the ravages of rabbits and roe deer. Nevertheless gardeners in Strathdearn manage to create a variety of gardens, from alpine, through woodland, with some, in the more favoured, sheltered spots even aspiring to the cottage garden. Some manage high class fruit and vegetables which leave the majority of us perplexed and full of envy.

Art Club

Strathdearn-art-clubArt in Strathdearn celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year!  We welcome members from the local community and beyond to enjoy the mutual support and encouragement engendered amongst like minded people.

We meet in the village hall on Thursdays  from 2pm – 4pm ( spring  & summer times) working on individual projects but sometimes as a group -producing for example the painted glass panels in the entrance to the Millennium Hall.

We have a number of tutors throughout the year chosen to inspire and inform. Topics this year include Charcoal Portraiture, Basket Weaving and Driftwood Sculpture. Craft workshops are included to appeal to those who prefer working with materials rather than more painterly mediums.

Our annual Exhibition in August is an established and popular event in the village calendar – a showcase for our accomplishments.
