MOY MATTERS (14)

A fairly short summary this month……

  1. Moy signs: Our new Welcome to Moy signs have been erected and looking good.
  2. Wild flowers and Flower planters: The MSC has bought wild flower seeds to plant along the Birch Walk. We are also planning to buy plants for our 8 planters (2 on Ruthven road, 2 at Lynebeg and 4 in Moy). If you are interested in joining us for a ‘community planting day’ please get in touch with any of our committee members or drop Marian an email and we can get something organised.
  3. Projects to date: We have completed many of the ideas suggested to us at our past community events so we thought we would give you a summary of what we have done to date: path along the length of the village restored and maintained twice yearly; 2 chainsaw carved benches with 2 more on order for Lynebeg and Ruthven; flower planters; welcome to Moy signs; upgrading of Birch Walk ; repair of fence and small styles built at wooden rail bridge; litter picking equipment bought; Moy Christmas tree; fibre to the house broadband.

We have a few ideas for future projects but we would love you to keep your ideas coming to us so please get in touch with any of the MSC members to share your ideas or give any feedback.

Remember…..The MSC has been established by Strathdearn Community Development (SCD) “to identify projects for funding through the Strathdearn share of the Moy Windfarm Communuty Benefit Fund”

The members are Marian Hendry (Chair, marian.hendry@talk21.com), Alastair Fraser (vice chair), Davie Cameron, John Clarke and Linda Armit.

The main purpose of the role is to co-ordinate and deliver humanitarian and resilience support, building community capacity and resilience through active engagement with a range of bodies including community and public sector organisations. Power Outages

The weather has been quite challenging this week and some communities were without power for a time on Thursday. There is a checking service on the SSEN website which allows people to track whether there are any faults in their area and the estimated time for power restoration.

Food Support for Groups

We know that a number of you continue to provide support to the most vulnerable in your communities and that most of you already have well defined routes for accessing food to provide this support or are supporting individuals to access their shopping or community fridges/food tables.

If you are struggling to access food to continue support to vulnerable people locally, please do contact us through the policy mailbox and we can look at ways that we can support your group going forward.

Board Member, Strathdearn Community Developments (SCD)

Are you interested in being involved in making changes within Strathdearn to ensure that the community can face the future in a confident and sustainable manner?

SCD was established in 2013 to deliver local projects and services in the area to meet with the community needs. Projects vary in size and cost ranging from multi-million pound affordable housing, the recently new Strathdearn hub/shop/cafe to simple footbridge replacement. In accordance with regulation covering our charitable status, we must demonstrate that all projects and services can be delivered and maintained to ensure we can achieve the best value and social outcomes for our community.

We are currently looking for an additional director on our board.  Faced with a number of unique financial, project management and service delivery challenges, we are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to the community and prepared to give their time and effort.

We want to hear from anyone within the community irrespective of their skill set or background, who is interested in the challenge of developing the strategic direction of SCD activities in order to shape a positive and sustainable future for Strathdearn. To further strengthen the board, people with professional financial experience would be particularly welcomed.

The appointment is voluntary with input on an as needs basis depending on individual project or service delivery involvement.  There is currently a minimum of twelve Board meetings per annum; normally held on a Thursday evening. At present these are held “virtually” in order to comply with current guidance. This position is on a co-opted basis chosen by the other directors until the next AGM in October/November’21.

For more information about SCD and our activities please visit www.thestrathdearn.org  where application forms are available in the Document Library under SCD Forms. Should you wish to find out more or discuss the requirements please email strathdearn@hotmail.co.uk.
