Our Community Councillors will have to put their retirement plans on hold for a little longer. The CC election date has been postponed to Wednesday 4 December 2019 and sitting councillors are asked to remain in place until then. The following letter from Highland Council Policy team explains why:
“Dear Community Councillor,
Due to a slow response to the call for nominations across the Highland Council area, the deadline for nominations has now been extended to 12 noon on Tuesday 29th October. The Election date has therefore been changed to Wednesday 4 December 2019.
We want to try and encourage as many individuals to stand for Community Councils as possible and to ensure that most Community Councils reform. We therefore feel that it is important to allow this extension to give people more time to come forward.
Can I please take the opportunity to remind you that all existing Community Councillors still need to submit nomination forms if they wish to continue.
