Where am I?

postcodeSome of the more observant of you will notice that a plate stating “IV13 7YN” has appeared on the wall of the Millennium Hall adjacent to the defibrillator. This is the post code for the location. This simple piece of information may safe a life.

Recently Tony and Marion Gerling had occasion to phone the emergency services when they were in Carrbridge. The first thing they were asked by the operator was the postcode of their location – a piece of information that is not uppermost in your mind when you are in an emergency situation. Likewise it is not something that you are likely to know if you are not at home. Consequently several vital minutes were lost as the operator consulted with a telephone directory to find a business in Carrbridge and the associated post code.

On that occasion no life was lost, but it had the potential of going horribly wrong. As a result Tony and Marion decided to commission Aimee Williamson to carve the postcode into one of her lovely plaques which has since been mounted adjacent to the defibrillator. This will enable any user to identify their location in the event of an emergency.

We would all like to thank Tony and Marion for their generosity in in not only providing the plate, but also bring to our attention the importance of a post code in an emergency. I am quite sure that the vast majority of us were not aware of this requirement.

Compass are looking at an alternative to the concrete blocks and cap slabs above 1st floor. An amendment to warrant will be required due to proposed change in fire proofing the stairwell. This is ongoing.

The GF Slab has been poured and is complete. Much of the slab is covered in snow and ice however it was noted that the areas of exposed slab are suffering from a degradation of the surface. Possibly due to low temperatures overnight after the pour. See photos below. Proposals required from Compass as to how the issue will be rectified.

Glulam erection is complete with exception of roof structure. The main posts and tie beams have been erected and braced with temporary props. Intermediate beams are being installed to allow floor cassettes to be lifted into position.

The size of the panels and crane reach make the lifts susceptible to wind and this has hampered progress to an extent.

Diagonal bracing remains to be fitted to the columns however the temporary bracing is still in place.

The kit and glulam installation looks to be of a good quality. Fixings are at very tight centres so no concerns with regard to nailing.

Carpark works have been suspended for now. Area required for sturctural frame and kit deliveries.

Normal practice would be to have washers between the baseplates and the HD nuts. Why have washers not been fitted? The contractor advised that washers will be installed on the HD Bolts. The washers have now been fitted at the column base plates

Upcoming Activities

Kit deliveries are ongoing with the 3rd load now on site and 4th load due on Friday 22nd.

Plasterboard deliveries scheduled for 8th April.

Blockwork construction to stairwell is on the critical path since the cap slab needs to go on before glulam is installed. Design works for the revised stair wall and capping detail are ongoing and proposals are awaited. This will now be installed after the glulam frame has been built.

Progress car park works once structural frame and panels have been completed and the car park area has been cleared.
