Moy Matters #8 February 2020 Newsletter

MOY MATTERS (9)

Progress to date:

  1. Tidying up the path around Moy Loch (Birch walk):  the track and ditches have been cleared over the whole length of the Birch walk and culverts in place. The recent heavy rain has caused a bit of slippage on the open ditch edges as the ground is saturated and the track surface is soft too. The contractor plans to allow the ground to dry up a bit before putting down fine surfacing material and rolling it. Meanwhile the track is walkable but will be a bit rough. Gates and seats still have to be installed.

  2. New signs for Moy: the new signs are completed. We have one Advertisement form to submit to HC before they can be installed.

  3. Meeting place: the MSC would like to thank everyone who took time to respond to our recent e-mail about the possible purchase of a dwelling place. Unfortunately this has fallen through so it is back to the drawing board and we are once again looking for somewhere for our meeting place. Responses were very encouraging and a meeting place in Moy remains an important priority for us.

  4. Moy FB page: it is called Moy sub-committee. Please ‘like’ us and join us. Feel free to post. Also if you are out and about and take photos in our lovely area, we would love to see them.

  5. Planters: Can we ask that everyone keeps a regular check on the planters and the plants and if ever there is a problem please let us know.

  6. Litter pick: Thank you to all those who turned up for another successful litter pick in November.

  7. Squirrel signs: all squirrel signs have now been erected. Let’s hope they are successful in slowing down passing traffic.

As always the sub-committee members want everyone to keep in touch so, if you want to contribute or give any feedback, please feel free to contact any of the sub-committee members at any time. The members are Marian Hendry (Chair, marian.hendry@talk21.com), Alastair Fraser (vice chair), Davie Cameron, John Clarke, Jimmy Duncan and Linda Armit.

Looking for house to rent

HouseForRentI’ve received a request from Lauren McKinley who has bought the Old Free Church by Findhorn Bridge. She spoke to the community council earlier this month about her project to renovate the church and build a bungalow nearby. The council was favourable to the plans and offered to write a letter of support. Lauren’s winter let is coming to an end. She doesn’t ‘do’ Facebook so asked me if I would share the following appeal with the community:

“In mid-April the house I am renting is turning into a holiday let- with an exorbitant monthly price I cannot afford.  So I will be homeless. I have been looking at multiple rental websites for several weeks now and found NOTHING!  Well- not quite true- there was a small cottage in Cawder but when I inquired they told me that too many people were interested so they were not showing it anymore.

I don’t require much- nothing fancy- but would need a place with an enclosed garden (for a very well mannered dog).  I was wondering if such a request could be posted on the community website and on facebook (I am not on facebook).  My thought is that somebody may know somebody…”

Can anyone help? If so, probably best if you contact Lauren directly. I’m wary of sharing other people’s contact info on the internet, so reconstruct the following: phone 075394 followed_by 78859 or email lcfmck followed_by @gmail.com.

Outreach Post Office in The Strathdearn – Thurs 9 Jan.

shop TS

The Post Office have just confirmed that Tomatin Outreach service will begin operating from the foyer of The Strathdearn this Thursday 9th January. This will be the first attempt at connecting through the new line so there may be issues, but it is the same system as Farr uses so the postmistress should be familiar with it. She will set up her equipment in the hall outside the office.

A word of caution : The last Outreach before Christmas was cancelled due to the postmistress’s husband being unwell. This situation is ongoing. We are hopeful that the service will go ahead as planned on Thursday but please be considerate of this very human difficulty.
