Hi everyone, hope you’re all keeping well! We just wanted to keep you in the loop with some forestry operations that will be taking place soon. Apologies for the long post but we wanted to give you as much detail as possible:

Forestry operations will soon be commencing in various estate woods to the North and East of the village centre. The work involves predominantly standard thinning of commercial timber, with some areas of non-native trees (mainly the Sitka Spruce and Lodgepole Pine) being clear felled as they are mature and ready for harvesting. These cleared areas will subsequently be replanted with mostly native species of pines and hardwoods to provide a more diverse woodland.

The operations are being carried out mostly in areas not used by members of the community for walking, recreation etc (see areas in green on the map which indicated where the work is being conducted). Timber will be stacked at various sites ready for loading to lorries off road. It is estimated the works should be completed within about 6 weeks, dependant on weather, Covid restrictions etc.

Whilst the contractor will carry out all the necessary health and safety measures with appropriate signage – please could parents remind their children of the dangers of playing on/near any machinery or log piles and to adhere to all warning signs.
Thanks and please let us know if you’ve got any questions!
