Dear community council
Development Plans Newsletter
We are pleased to announce the publication of our March 2023 Development Plans Newsletter, which gives an overview as to how land use planning documents are prepared by The Highland Council, and how and when you or your local community can get involved.
This newsletter provides updates on the current local development plans in the Highland area (Highland-wide, Inner Moray Firth, Caithness and Sutherland, and West Highlands and Islands), and introduces the new, single Highland Local Development Plan, including the evidence gathering, monitoring, and consultation that will be carried out to inform the new Plan.

Participation Statement Survey – we need your help!
We want to make sure that our approach to consultation will work for the people and organisations who are living, working, and investing in the Highland region. To give us your views on the suitability of our proposed approach to participation in development plans, we would be grateful if you could spare five minutes of your time to complete our survey. The survey is open for responses until 5pm on 31 May 2023.
To take part in our survey, please visit: https://forms.office.com/e/Z9RS4T0bJn, where you can also view our privacy notice and request this survey in a different format.
Local Place Plans
Your community council may be interested to read about Local Place Plans in our latest newsletter. Local Place Plans are a new initiative introduced by Scottish Government to encourage communities to play an active role in the planning for their area.
Once Scottish Government has published relevant regulations and guidance that are expected this spring, we will be sending a mailing about the Local Place Plans opportunity to all community councils. For any other Community Body that would like to receive this mailing, please can they send their organisation’s contact details, including email address, to the Highland Council at: lpp@highland.gov.uk
For guidance and tools to help your community with preparing, submitting, and registering a Local Place Plan, including helping an organisation decide if it is a Community Body able to prepare one, please visit: www.highland.gov.uk/localplaceplans
With kind regards
Sent on behalf of Scott Dalgarno, Development Plans Manager
