Lights … Camera … Action …. (Update: Cancelled)

Since the message below was issued, the director has chosen another location so there will be no filming at The Strathdearn on Thursday 28th.

We have had confirmation that the Bollywood movie crew will be filming at the Strathdearn Hub tomorrow (28 Sept), for one day.  This will mean the car park will be busy, but we will have a parking attendant on duty to help with the extra volume of vehicles. We thank you in advance for your patience.

Urgent – We are in imminent danger of losing our council

I have received the information that Strathdearn CC has not had enough nominations to form a new council. Unless there are at least 4 nominations by 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd October Strathdearn Community Council will be dissolved at midnight on 10th October. There will be NO COUNCIL to take your concerns to The Highland Council or any other body, and work will stop on any discussions we are having now. PLEASE, if you value the work the CC does for the community, put yourself forward. All the details can be found on The Highland Council website

If the CC does not form there will be an election in March next year, almost six months away, but how will the community manage for that length of time without a council? Please don’t let that happen.

Community Council Election – appeal for candidates

Please ensure that Strathdearn is not one of the large number of councils that the Highland Council predict will be dissolved, as they do not have enough nominees to form a new council. Let’s make  Strathdearn one of the councils that will reform by having at least 4 residents put themselves forward before midday on Tuesday 3rd October. If you want to help your community, become a Community Councillor by nominating yourself on the form on the Highland council website  www.highland.gov.uk/ccelections  Help in filling it in can be obtained from the elections team by emailing   ccelection@highland.gov.uk  or phoning   01349 886657.

I understand that those councils that do not form this time will have a chance to do so at another election in March next year. I hope that that will not be needed as Strathdearn, without a CC for about 5 months, would be a poorer place.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The current Community Council is coming to the end of its life and nominations for members of the new council are needed.

Those wishing to put themselves forward need to self-nominate by completing the online form that is available on the Highland Council website. (www. highland.gov.uk/ccelections)  It’s simple and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. All candidates have to do is submit their contact details, name of the community council they wish to represent, confirm they are eligible and provide their electoral number. This can be obtained by completing the electoral number request form, by emailing the Electoral Registration Office at ero@highland.gov.uk or by telephoning 0800 393783.

The cut off date for submitting a nomination is 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd October 2023. The information about nominees will be published on the Community Council Election webpage.

The Elections team and the Ward Manager are available to help anyone who has difficulty accessing or completing the online form. Their email address is ccelection@highland.gov.uk and their phone number is 01349 886657.

For the Council to be reformed at least 4 nominations are needed. If between 4 and 8 nominations are made, the election will be uncontested. The last meeting of this council will then be on Tuesday 10th October. The council will be dissolved at 11;59 pm that day. If there are more than 8 nominations the election is contested and the last meeting of this council will be on Tuesday 14th November. A ballot will be held and postal votes have to be in by midday on the 27th November. Contested councils will be dissolved at 12:59 at 11:59 pm that day. In both these cases the council should be re-formed this year. If there are less than 4 nominations the council is dissolved and a new round of nominations will take place in January before a new council can be formed.

Please, put yourself forward now as a Councillor, as Strathdearn, without a Community Council is unthinkable.
