Month: November 2024

A9 Duelling: Traffic control, Dec – Feb.

Overnight temporary traffic signals during December, January and February

A9 Dualling: Tomatin to Moy project:

Further to our communication last month, we are writing to advise you of traffic management being implemented on the A9 trunk road between Tomatin and Moy to allow us to safely undertake site establishment works.

To facilitate the main construction works, and to ensure the safety of road users and the workforce, traffic management is required to form site access points. These accesses will allow workers, plant and materials to safely access the construction areas. Once constructed, they will have minimal impact on the operation of the A9.

Traffic management will involve temporary traffic signals with a temporary speed restriction of 30mph throughout the works area. To minimise traffic disruption, working hours will be between 1930hrs and 0600hrs each night between Sunday night and Friday morning. There will be no works during the day or on Friday or Saturday nights.

It is expected that these overnight traffic management measures will be implemented on the A9 commencing Sunday 1 December 2024 for approximately one week.

Temporary traffic signals are expected to be required again on the A9 in January 2025 and February 2025 and further information will be provided on these nearer the time.

These works are weather dependent and scheduled dates are subject to change.

For live traffic updates, please visit the Traffic Scotland website at; www.traffic.gov.scot

Road users are advised to plan their journey in advance and visit Traffic Scotland for live updates. Please drive with care on approach to the area between Tomatin and Moy whilst traffic management is in place. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Traffic management measures such as localised verge coning and short priority stop and go systems will continue to be in place on the local road network during daytime hours throughout this period.

The above works may temporarily increase noise levels in the immediate surrounding area and we would like to reassure you that in order to keep disturbance to a minimum, we will utilise best practice methods of working. This will include using low noise reversing alarms on machinery and briefing staff on the importance of keeping noise levels to a minimum.

All works undertaken are subject to consultation with, and approval from, the Local Authority and the Local Authority Environmental Services before being implemented. As part of this approvals process, we are required to provide justification to Local Authorities including details of the reasons for working at night, the timing of works and the measures we plan to take to minimise disturbance to our neighbours.

For further information regarding traffic management and live traffic up-dates, please refer to the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org and for further project updates, the A9 Dualling website at www.a9dualling.scot

If you have any enquiries regarding these works, you can contact the project’s Community Liaison Officer, Duncan Gardner. You can reach Duncan by email at A9T2M@balfourbeatty.com or by telephone on 0800 998 7573.

Yours faithfully

A local butcher from Craft Skills Scotland will then showcase how to prepare different cuts of venison, before chef Tim Maddams takes to the stage with an engaging live cooking demonstration, culminating in delicious tasters for everyone to enjoy.

Balfour Beatty is inviting members of the public to learn more about their plans for dualling the A9 between Tomatin and Moy at their Met the Contractor events.

Meet key project staff members, explore an exhibition about the works and learn more about the benefits the project will deliver during construction and beyond.

What to expect…

We are really looking forward to getting started on this exciting project and, in addition to providing you with lots of useful information about what to expect over the next few years from the works, we also want to celebrate the project commencing with the local community.

With that in mind, we have planned a few extra activities for the Tomatin event that will hopefully provide some fun for all the family.

Between 3pm and 7pm, the following activities will be taking place at the Strathdearn Community Hub:

  • Ecology and bird boxes Meet our ecologists from Ellendale Environmental, learn about what they do, try some of their equipment and build a bird box for your garden.
  • STEM activities Our digital and technology team will have some of our VR equipment for you to try and will explain how we use this equipment on the project. We will also have PPE to try on and the chance to build your own mini bridges!
  • Food, fun and face painting! Our friends at the Hub cafe are cooking up a few treats with free soup, cakes and hot and cold drinks and face painting between 3pm and 6pm.

Tomatin Substation Extension – Pre Application Consultation Event

Tuesday 12 November, -7pm at The Strathdearn

[The following text is taken from SSEN website (https://www.ssen-transmission.co.uk/tomatin)]

As Transmission Operator for the north of Scotland, we are currently required to provide connections for four proposed new wind farms and wind farm extensions in the Tomatin area, and together these projects are referred to as ‘The Tomatin Cluster’. We are therefore proposing to extend the existing Tomatin Substation to house the transmission infrastructure required to facilitate this renewable generation.

We invite all interested parties to attend, meet the team, and share your views.

The event will be held on:

Date: 12 November 2024
Time: 2pm – 7pm
Venue: The Strathdearn, Tomatin IV13 7YN

If you are unable to attend the public event all the material that will be on display will be available to be downloaded from the Documents section of the project webpage.

Please let us know if you require information in an adapted format such as paper copy, large print or braille and we will work with you to accommodate your preferences. We are happy to accommodate all reasonable requests for adapted communications.

Please note that comments made through the pre-application consultation process are not formal representations to The Highland Council. When the planning application is submitted there will be an opportunity to make formal representations to The Highland Council via the planning portal or in writing.
