A new wind farm development is proposed for a location 5.6km east of Tomatin and 6.6km north-west of Carrbridge.

Proposals are at an early stage. The developers have submitted a Scoping Report to the Scottish Government and are undertaking a range of public consultation including local events in Tomatin on Oct 3 and Carrbridge on Oct 4.

Turbine height (to tip) – 200m

Wind capacity – 55.8MW

Operating period – 35years

The current Community Council is coming to the end of its life and nominations for members of the new council are needed.

Those wishing to put themselves forward need to self-nominate by completing the online form that is available on the Highland Council website. (www. highland.gov.uk/ccelections)  It’s simple and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. All candidates have to do is submit their contact details, name of the community council they wish to represent, confirm they are eligible and provide their electoral number. This can be obtained by completing the electoral number request form, by emailing the Electoral Registration Office at ero@highland.gov.uk or by telephoning 0800 393783.

The cut off date for submitting a nomination is 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd October 2023. The information about nominees will be published on the Community Council Election webpage.

The Elections team and the Ward Manager are available to help anyone who has difficulty accessing or completing the online form. Their email address is ccelection@highland.gov.uk and their phone number is 01349 886657.

For the Council to be reformed at least 4 nominations are needed. If between 4 and 8 nominations are made, the election will be uncontested. The last meeting of this council will then be on Tuesday 10th October. The council will be dissolved at 11;59 pm that day. If there are more than 8 nominations the election is contested and the last meeting of this council will be on Tuesday 14th November. A ballot will be held and postal votes have to be in by midday on the 27th November. Contested councils will be dissolved at 12:59 at 11:59 pm that day. In both these cases the council should be re-formed this year. If there are less than 4 nominations the council is dissolved and a new round of nominations will take place in January before a new council can be formed.

Please, put yourself forward now as a Councillor, as Strathdearn, without a Community Council is unthinkable.

The Strathdearn is renting out our catering kitchen for the next 6 weeks, to a Bollywood Film unit! You may smell some delicious, authentic Indian cooking coming from the extended marquee they have set up.

They will be working long shifts, and have been given full access to the building, so don’t be alarmed if you see people out of hours

All persons wishing to hire an eBike from The Strathdearn must be over the age of 18 and should live within the IV13 boundary of Strathdearn. Our eBikes may be ridden by U18s but the hire agreement must be made by a parent or guardian over 18. Persons under 14 may not legally ride an ebike on a public road.

 

ROAD SAFETY  

All persons using the eBikes are expected to be able to cycle safely on public roads and be able to follow the Highway Code and the ‘Extra Rules for Cyclists’ (Rules 187-211). 

 

KIT PROVIDED

All eBike hires include:

· Bike and battery

· Helmet

· Bike lock

· Charging unit

· Bike cover

· Puncture repair kit

This week’s topic of the community Digital Inclusion course: Scam Awareness

Anyone can fall for a scam regardless of age – through knowledge and awareness during this week’s lesson at The Strathdearn hub participants can learn how to protect themselves and their loved ones online and on the phone.

All welcome with an IV13 postcode – during the break of the session pop up to The Snug for a free cup of tea or coffee.
