Ronald’s mother was from the Cameron-Mackintosh family and after her husband died when Ronald was a young boy she went to teach in Lewis. There he learned Gaelic which his mother already spoke. Then they returned to Tomatin where she taught at Dalarossie School and later he went to Glasgow university to study mathematics and then education, eventually becoming Director of Education for the Highlands.
He tells about living on Lewis, the farms and buildings in Strathdearn, his time in India in the army, the grouse moors and some stories too.
