How the “Not So Long Ago” project started.
In early 2012 following on from work done by members of the Natural History group investigating the history of Strathdearn from earliest times, it was decided to continue into more recent history and events as remembered by village residents.
The recording was carried out in the peoples’ own homes by Sandra Day, accompanied by long-term resident Betty Watson, herself having being born and lived all her life in the area. After recording and many hours editing to keep the narrative flowing a CD of their reminiscences was given to each person and a request was made for permission to keep their recording for educational purposes in the future.
These recordings give a true picture of life in the valley during the second half of the 20th. Century and we are truly grateful to those who have taken part and shared their experiences with us.
