We were sorry that John Clarke decided to take early retirement and leave us as he had done a sterling job as Ops Manager whilst in position and in the interim Tracy Campbell was appointed part-time Hub Co-ordinator.  However, moving forward Tracy is going back to her Minute Secretary role which she loves.  Tracy will also be helping organising community events.  Until a firm decision is made on whether to appoint a full-time or part-time Ops Manager, Elaine Macleod, our Company Secretary for SCD & WRT, will take on the role of temporary part-time Interim Operations Manager until the end of June 23.  We welcome Elaine to her additional role and thank Tracy for holding the fort.  We also welcome Tracy back to her previous role and know she will thrive in organising events for the community.

A Site to Behold

For the past 3 years the Community Website has tried to be a hybrid site, serving both the community and the commercial needs of The Strathdearn Hub. It didn’t work so they are splitting again. In future the Hub will have its own dedicated website and the community site will concentrate on community matters – news, useful information, and safeguarding Strathdearn’s heritage. The new address is https://strathdearn.org (just type strathdearn.org into the address bar).

I’ve rebuilt the Community Website from scratch with 3 design aims:

(1) To make it quick and easy to access local news. From experience I know that the most frequent users are locals popping in for more info on the latest Facebook bun-fight, or for a quick fact-check such as what time the meeting starts tonight. Therefore you don’t need to go beyond the front page to catch up with the latest goings-on. At the top is a scrolling news ticker featuring brief details of all upcoming events including date and time – just tap or click on the text to access more details. Below the ticker are the latest Strathdearn news stories, most recent first.

(2) To make it more mobile-friendly. The majority of visitors to any website now do so via their phones so all pages are designed to respond well on a small screen.

(3) To simplify management. The last site got tortuously complicated, this one is stripped to the bone. I live in hope of finding a volunteer to help manage it and take over if I get run over by a bus. If you have any experience of WordPress websites, you can run this one. If you haven’t but are comfortable with computer programmes, I can show you. If you’re interested, contact me. No pay but you get to hear the news first.

Beyond the front page you’ll find sections on local services & organisations, useful info, public documents, ancient & recent history, and much more. A lot of the info needs updating – in particular the listings for Local Businesses and Where to Stay. If you think you may be included in either, please check and send me an update if necessary. Contributions to the the Photo Archive are always welcome.

There will be a Quiet Hour of Prayer in the Strathdearn Hub on Thursday 27 April at 10.30 am

Also on Thursday 27th – Songs of Praise at Daviot Church at 7 pm.

Coffee & Crafts Group at Daviot Church on Friday 28 April at 10.30 am.

Next Sunday – 30 April – there is a Joint Service at Cawdor Church at 11 am followed by a bring & share lunch. Please bring your own tea, coffee or soft drink.

Please Note: There will be no Service in the Strathdearn Hub or at Dalarossie Church next Sunday, 30 April.

Strathdearn Council received the following letter from Highland Council:

The Highland Council is updating its Local Transport Strategy, which sets out how it will manage and modernise the transport network across the region in the coming years. The Case for Change is the first stage in this process and is about gathering evidence. This consultation seeks your views on it.

The feedback we receive now will be used to help develop a draft of the updated Local Transport Strategy, which will then itself go out for consultation later in the year.

The survey questionnaire seeks your views on the key findings from the report. The questionnaire and the full Case for Change Report are available here.

This consultation is open for 8 weeks, closing on Monday 29^th May. Please feel free to share this email with your networks.

Development Plans Newsletter

We are pleased to announce the publication of our March 2023 Development Plans Newsletter, which gives an overview as to how land use planning documents are prepared by The Highland Council, and how and when you or your local community can get involved.

This newsletter provides updates on the current local development plans in the Highland area (Highland-wide, Inner Moray Firth, Caithness and Sutherland, and West Highlands and Islands), and introduces the new, single Highland Local Development Plan, including the evidence gathering, monitoring, and consultation that will be carried out to inform the new Plan.

Local Place Plans

Your community council may be interested to read about Local Place Plans in our latest newsletter. Local Place Plans are a new initiative introduced by Scottish Government to encourage communities to play an active role in the planning for their area.

Once Scottish Government has published relevant regulations and guidance that are expected this spring, we will be sending a mailing about the Local Place Plans opportunity to all community councils.
